Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Versus a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 years after the first Toy Story movie was released, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and introducing audiences to beloved characters like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.
In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a glimpse into the storyline but leaving viewers curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang
The preview shows the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — getting a latest plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and helping prize toys find good homes.
Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Connections from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the badge pinned to her shirt.
It is hoped she is still the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
